Minneriya National Park

Minneriya National Park is situated in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The major cities closest to it is Habarana and Polonnaruwa. The renovated ancient Minneriya Reservoir that irrigates the considerable area of the district of Polonnaruwa is the focal point of the Minneriya National Park

Being part of the elephant corridor which joins up with Kaudulla and Wasgamuwa National Parks, Minneriya National Park gives the opportunity to see herds of Elephants throughout the year. May to October is the best period to visit Minneriya National Park in view of the World famous Great Elephant Gathering of the Asian wild elephants.

The abundance of huge trees looks like clouds in green distance such as Palu, Satin, Milla, Kalumediriya, and the diversity of lush grasses including Katu-una, Wali indi, Illuk the provide ample of food for the wildlife adding contrasting tropical ecosystems to the Minneriya safari experience.
It is also home to Sri Lankan Sloth Bears and leopards other than elephants. It is listed as one of the important bird areas in Sri Lanka. The wildlife here comprises of 26 species of mammals, 160 species of bird, 9 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 26 species of fish and 75 species of butterfly.
