Kolugala Village is located Hatharaliyadda in Kandy district in Central province of Sri Lanka. The terrain elevation of the area is above seal level is 381 metres. The ancient royal temple of Kolugala or Kolugala Rajamaha Viharaya created in a natural rock cave. People believe this temple have been built by king Walagambahu in the 1 st century BC.
There are some legends among people, some religius and social activities done by king Nissankamalla of Polonnaruwa also in the village. The temple exhibits mural painting of folk art, the wooden architectural methods, Buddha statues of the tradition of the Kandyan era.
Kolugala Rajamaha Viharaya is situated in the picturesque rural environment with terrace rice fieds and Kandyan home gardens and the main pilgrimage center of the villagers.
