Nagadipa Purana Vihara temple in Jafna

Nagadipa Purana Viharaya in Jaffna District is one of 16 holiest Buddhist temples or the Solosmasthana in Sri Lanka. It is believed that Gautama Buddha visited Nagadeepa after five years of attaining Enlightenment to settle the well known gem throne dispute between two warring Naga kings, Chulodara and Mahodara.

Nagadipa Viharaya is located in a small island call Nayinativu separated from the main land of Jafna. You need to take a boat from the Kurikadduwan jetty to reach here. Group boats operate regularly and it take about 20 minites for the ride. The boat will drop you at the temple jetty.

Naga Pooshani Ambal Hindu Kovil also in the same Nayinativu island. The Kovil dedicated to goddess Naga Pooshani who is one formation of goddess Paththini. Hinus and Buddhists specially requesting her to protect families from several special physical sicknesses, healthy pregnancy and new born infants
